Description according to GoodReads, ” Most know Androma Racella as the Bloody Baroness, a powerful mercenary whose reign of terror stretches across the Mirabel Galaxy. To those aboard her glass starship, Marauder, however, she’s just Andi, their friend and fearless leader.

But when a routine mission goes awry, the Marauder’s all-girl crew is tested as they find themselves in a treacherous situation and at the mercy of a sadistic bounty hunter from Andi’s past.

Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a ruthless ruler waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time to exact revenge for the destruction of her people. The pieces of her deadly plan are about to fall into place, unleashing a plot that will tear Mirabel in two.

Andi and her crew embark on a dangerous, soul-testing journey that could restore order to their shipor just as easily start a war that will devour worlds. As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, and Mirabel hangs in the balance, the only certainty is that in a galaxy run on lies and illusion, no one can be trusted.”

Review:

  • Going into this book I have now read it twice. Once with an arc provided by Edelwiss but I ended up DNFing it as it was messing with my mental health on top of putting me into a book slump. The second time I read it was with a copy that I bought at HalfPriceBooks on sale.
    • No joke guys they freaking hid it behind a bunch of books and this was about a  month after the book was released. I was graced with the luck to be able to find a copy of it in hardcover for only SEVEM FREAKING DOLLARS. A STEAL I TELL YOU IN THE BOOKISH WORLD!
    • Also on top of this all I am in no means connecting this book with the authors. I am going into this review as if a nobody wrote it and will be reviewing it in the same way.
    • On top of this if you all want to hate on me for this review I would just like to let you know that found the bookish community because of Sasha and because I am to shy to film videos that was what pushed me towards this blog so please don’t think I am being mean or anything but just being an honest reviewer of this book that was written by a human being.
  • Trigger Warnings: murder, PTSD (bad rep), grief
  • POVS:
    • There is way to many and none of them are fleshed out.
    • I believe there is about five points of views from five different characters. Correct me if I am wrong.
      • None of them were at all fleshed out and sometimes the same three characters from a scene would have a different chapter a piece where they would describe everything over again in what happened in the said scene with minor changes to it and little to no real emotion shown in them.
  • Characters:
    • Some of them were there for no reason.
      • By this I mean while reading this book half of the characters could’ve never been in it or died off and it would’ve been perfectly fine.
        • I am including half of the main characters into this.
    • The main characters were a joke.
      • I am sorry but they were. They all had no real level to them and even when you think they were starting to gain a real level to them it would go a 180 or they would become 100% contradictory of what they were saying the minute ago.
      • Andi was one of the worst protagonist I have ever read and I have read Red Queen so yeah :/
        • She was cruel to everyone around her for no reason.
        • She talks about how killing people is wrong and that she should stop and then goes and kills several people and does yet again another 180.
        • Her romance with her Ex Dex was nonetheless a toxic relationship that shouldn’t have been in this book, especially if the whole idea was female power.
        • PTSD potryal in Andi from what I have read from several other trustworthy friends of mine who suffer from it is not laughable but hurtful.
  • Harmful part of the book:
    • There was rape in this book so if you have suffered, know someone who has or does not care to read about that in a book I please advise you to steer clear of this book.
      • In this book there was this form of “mind compulsion” rape which was not only off the charts didn’t need to be in there but was also extremely harmful in every single aspect it was written in.
      • Along with this is a sci-fi that is categorized as Young Adult and in this day and age this book defiantly can pull in a younger audience of not only girls but also boys which may not only influence them but also harm them. They really needed to have cut this out of the book before it was published but sadly it was not, on top of all of that THIS IS A SCI-FI BOOK THEY COULD’VE BEEN DOING OR TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING MUCH MORE APPROPRIATE AND LESS HARMFUL.
  • Writing, Plot and Editing:
    • There writing style in the first 70ish pages seemed like a classic book where it was all light and flowery. However immediately after that standpoint the writing takes a turn for the worst is the only way I can really describe it.
      • From there you can tell who wrote what and why they may have wrote what.
        • Neither of their writing styles flowed together like other duo writers which was a big let down especially for how hyped this book was.
    • You were easily able to tell that whoever the editor was either did not care about this book or take time into her job to edit it correctly as in the PUBLISHED copy there was several things being repeated, spelling and grammatical errors.
    • This book felt as if it was built on every trope whether good or bad and then pushed in a way that made it not an asset to the book.
    • The plot of this book was horrendous.
      • The whole entire story was ended at the 200 page mark really but not until we get to the last 20 pages do we get a climax of any sort and then to add to that if leaves on a weird cliffhanger when it should’ve been done at that point of even before.
    • Also in this book you are being TOLD what is happening and not SHOWN what is happening which basically goes against every single professional book out there. This was extremely annoying and felt like I was reading out of a school book instead of a novel.
  • All-in-All this was a complete let down of a book. I think that if this book had a year of two more of dedication that was gone into it then it would’ve been immensely better however, it was pushed and for all of what was said above it has came to the point where I will most likely not continuing with this book series.

1/5 stars
